Bio on Penny Rambacher, R.D.N.
After 20 years experience as a hospital Food Service Director, Penny Rambacher found her passion as a social entrepreneur helping poor people in Guatemala while flying to Latin America as an American Airlines flight attendant. In the 15 years since she founded Miracles In Action, an IRS approved non-profit charity, Penny has coordinated the construction of 57 rural primary schools, 25 village water systems, 20 vocational workshops, and over 2300 safe, fuel efficient stoves, along with 100s of student scholarships. As an RDN, Penny has developed educational information and resources in Spanish and indigenous Maya languages to share with other non-profits and nutrition programs. These resources are available for free at ProyectoCAN.org. CAN includes Culinary (recipes), Agriculture (gardens) and Nutrition. Also, Penny supports women and girls through the Mayan women’s cottage industry by designing and purchasing beaded and woven handicrafts that are then sold online, wholesale, and at events to provide "Purposeful Beads“ and go beyond fair trade. Her mission is to “help impoverished families to help themselves” - provide a hand up, not handouts.
