The Alice Wimpfheimer International Nutrition Foundation(AWIN)
WHO and WHAT is AWIN?
The Alice Wimpfheimer International Nutrition Foundation(AWIN) is a 501C3 charitable organization founded by Registered Dietitian Nutritionists who share a passion for global nutrition work. All our board members have experience working as volunteers or consultants in low resource countries. We are dedicated to providing pathways for dietitians and related professionals to advance nutritional care where there is little nutrition infrastructur
GOALS:
The World Health Organization recognizes nutrition as the #1 health issue in the world and yet there are commonly few qualified nutrition health care professionals in the countries and regions where they are most needed. Alice Wimpfheimer International Nutrition (AWIN) is dedicated to funding the training and mentoring of nutrition professionals and students within and outside the United States. We support professional groups, including within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, but also non-governmental organizations, training and academic projects, research, and anything that enables more effective global humanitarian nutrition care. We support activities within high resource countries only as they support the humanitarian nutrition efforts in low and mid resource countries.
AWIN’s RELATIONSHIP to GMIG:
AWIN offers funding to GMIG-preferred nutritionists for projects and conferences that will further global nutrition health care. Some of our GMIG recipients have received mini-grants, funding to attend international conferences, webinar honorariums, and nutrition resources for a children’s hospital, Cambodia. Interested GMIG members, including students, can inquire about current AWIN funding opportunities by contacting the GMIG Awards & Grants Coordinator or the GMIG leadership.
